MEDICINE LAKE STARRY STONEWORT HERBICIDE TREATMENT
Three Rivers Park District received a waiver from the DNR requiring signatures from all lakeshore property owners approving the herbicide treatment. As a condition of the waiver, it is required that property owners are notified about the treatment; and property owners who are opposed are provided an opportunity to opt out of having the treatment near their shoreline property.
This public notice serves as the required property owner notification for the treatment. Other forms of public notice may include but are not limited to notification through email lists, websites, newsletters and/or meetings.
With regards to the treatment for this year, 2026:
1. The proposed date for treatments: There will be a maximum of 3 treatments from August 12 through
September 30, 2026
2. The target species for the treatment: Starry Stonewort (Nitellopsis obtusa)
3. The method of control or product being used: EPA and MDA registered aquatic herbicides, such as but not limited to: Komeen @ 1 ppm and Diquat @ 0.15 ppm
4. How landowners may request that control not occur adjacent to the landowner's property: If you desire that the treatment of Starry Stonewort NOT occur adjacent to your property, please notify the Three Rivers Park District immediately at the following address and email address below:
